School Tours

The Stark Museum of Art offers educators the opportunity to expand their educational offerings through guided tours by trained docents. Each tour is designed to complement school curriculum such as the visual arts, social studies, science, math, and language arts. The tours range from an overview of the Museum’s galleries to special focus tours, and last no more than one hour. The Museum also offers interactive activities during the tours to promote critical thinking skills and engage the students in the subject matter. The Stark Museum of Art offers school tours free of charge.

General Tour

Any grade level will appreciate this docent-led tour through the galleries focusing on paintings, sculpture, weavings, and other art of the Stark Museum Collection with a bronze demonstration, interactive word games and a scavenger hunt.


American Indian Focus Tour

This docent-led tour for any grade level is one that focuses on the American Indian represented in the Stark Museum’s collection of paintings, sculpture, weavings, and other arts. Docents explain how bronzes are made and engage students in interactive word games and scavenger hunts.


Cowboy Charlie Focus Tour

This interactive, docent-led tour highlights western paintings and sculptures. The book Cowboy Charlie by Jeanette Winter, which focuses on the life of Charles Marion Russell, is read to the students. This tour is recommended for Kindergarten – 3rd grades.


Frederic Remington Focus Tour

This docent-led interactive tour spotlights Frederic Remington, Charles Marion Russell, N.C. Wyeth and other western artists. Docents read the book The Life and Work of Frederic Remington by Ernestine Giesecke to students before their tour. This tour is recommended for Grades 3 – 5.
