Thursday, June 23, 2011, 6:30 p.m.
Lutcher Theater, 707 Main Avenue, Orange
Book-signing and reception at Stark Museum of Art after performance

Brian "Fox" Ellis as AudubonPerformer and author Brian “Fox” Ellis portrays the famous artist and naturalist John James Audubon (1785-1851) in this internationally acclaimed show. Based on direct quotations from the artist’s journals, essays, and letters, this family-friendly performance features storytelling with images of Audubon’s art. Free.

Combining humor with meticulous research, Ellis presents a compelling image of the great artist as he finishes the task never accomplished before: drawing every bird in North America. After the performance of approximately seventy-five minutes, the Museum will host a festive reception with refreshments.

Since 1980, Brian "Fox" Ellis has been touring the world as a storyteller, researcher and speaker on environmental concerns at regional and international conferences, such as the International Wetlands Conservation Conference and the National Association of Gifted Educators Conference. He also is a museum consultant, having worked with the Field Museum and the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library, the Artistic Director for Prairie Folklore Theatre, and the author of twelve books.  His Adventurers with Audubon was recently honored by the Illinois Humanities Council Roads Scholar Program.

On view at the Museum will be selections from the Museum’s extensive collection of Audubon materials.  Included will be a volume of the artist’s own copy of the double elephant folio of The Birds of America, pattern prints, and a rare pastel drawing from Audubon’s early period.
