Jean Bourdichon (c. 1457 – 1521) served as a court painter for four French kings. He headed a workshop that produced illuminated manuscripts, especially the prayer books known as Books of Hours. The depiction of The Flight into Egypt accompanied the devotions at Vespers in this beautiful Book of Hours attributed to Bourdichon and his studio.
