ORANGE, Texas, December 21, 2007 – Interactive children’s activities and outgoing exhibitions make the Stark Museum of Art a perfect holiday outing for the entire family. The Museum is currently offering activity hand-outs that coordinate with the Nicolai Fechin and Illuminated Manuscripts exhibitions, which will close at the Museum on December 29 and January 5, respectively.
The Artist’s Hand: The Art of Nicolai Fechin includes charcoal drawings, oil paintings, and carved wooden sculptures depicting portraiture, landscapes, still lifes, and scenes of Indian life. The coordinating children’s activity hand-out encourages children to draw a portrait of someone they know. Although the exercise relates strongly to the Fechin exhibition, it also complements several other artists in the permanent galleries and will still be available in the Museum once the Fechin exhibition closes.
Angels in Art: Illuminated Manuscripts from the Stark Collection is a special focus exhibition featuring seven beautifully hand-painted Books of Hours manuscripts open to images of angels. This exhibition’s accompanying activity encourages children to create their own illuminated manuscript.
“The activity hand-out has suggestions and activity pages for drawing and writing stories, inspired by the elements of an illuminated manuscript from the medieval period,” said Sue Harris, director of education and programs. “It will encourage children to create and illustrate visual images and stories that they can share with their families and friends after their visit to the Stark Museum of Art.”
Located at 712 Green Avenue in Orange, Texas, the Stark Museum of Art is open to the public at no charge Tuesday through Saturday. Hours are from 10 am-5 pm. Group tours are available by appointment. For more information call 409.886.ARTS (2787) or visit www.starkmuseum.org.
