Stark Museum of Art Hosts Wild West Family Day on Saturday, July 10

ORANGE, Texas, June 29 – The Stark Museum of Art invites families to attend a western-themed Family Day at the Museum on Saturday, July 10 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.  Admission is free and all ages are welcome. Guests are encouraged to dress up as cowboys and cowgirls.

Wild West Family Day includes a scavenger hunt for cowboy images in the Museum.  Visitors will hear a story about cowboy artist Charlie Russell and view his art in the galleries. Families will also have the opportunity to create a work of art, play western games, win prizes and enjoy refreshments.

The Museum will welcome guests from the Orange County Sheriff’s Posse to Wild West Family Day.  Members of the Posse will be onsite during Family Day to demonstrate roping and saddling a horse. The Orange County Sheriff’s Posse hosts the annual Orange County Rodeo, scheduled the third weekend in July.

Amelia Wiggins, Educator, Public Programs, invites the public to Wild West Family Day, saying, “We hope families will visit the museum on July 10 to learn about life in the Old West and see the art of cowboy artist Charlie Russell. We look forward to learning about horsemanship from the Orange County Sheriff’s Posse and thank them for their support of this event.” Wiggins reminds the public that the Stark Museum of Art welcomes all ages, but children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

Wild West Family Day is planned in conjunction with the museum’s reinstallation of Charles Russell’s works of art. Museum visitors will see Russell’s paintings, illustrated letters and bronze sculptures. Russell’s work portrays scenes of life in the Old West.

Located at 712 Green Avenue in Orange, Texas, the Stark Museum of Art is open to the public at no charge Tuesday through Saturday. Hours are from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Group tours are available by appointment. For more information call 409.886.ARTS (2787) or visit www.starkmuseum.org.
