The Medici Giraffe
Round Table Book Discussion
Saturday, November 6, 2010, 3:00 p.m.
A panel will lead discussion of the book The Medici Giraffe: And Other Tales of Exotic Animals and Power by Marina Belozerskaya, who explores exotic animals as mirrors of the cultures that prized them. Participants are encouraged to read the book in advance. The Medici Giraffe will be available for purchase at the Museum Store of the Stark Museum of Art. Light refreshments. Free admission.
The panel will be moderated by Andy Coughlan, Editor of ISSUE arts magazine, exhibiting artist and Assistant Director of Student Publications, Lamar University. The panelists include Mary Baswell, English major and current McNair Scholar at Lamar University; James Burnes, M.A (History) candidate, Lamar University; Jason Duncan, B.A. (English), senior McNair Scholar, Lamar University; Dr. Elena Ivanova, Chief Educator at the Stark Museum of Art; Talbert Meadows, Volunteer, Shangri La Botanical Gardens and Nature Center; Michael Saar, Assistant Professor and Reference Librarian, Mary & John Gray Library, Lamar University; Capt. Chuck Uzzle, outdoors writer; and Ken Wernig, Adjunct instructor for Lamar State College - Orange and for Accelerated Certification of Educators Program and Co-chair of the English Department, West Orange - Stark High School.
