Presentation: Medieval Books and Their Readers

11/20/2008

by Dr. Judith Steinhoff

November 20, 2008 – 6:30 PM – Lutcher Theater

Followed by Reception at Stark Museum of Art

Medieval books were “manuscripts,” each written out and decorated by hand. This presentation will begin with the process of making Medieval manuscripts. We will then look at the Book of Hours as one very popular book, and at other types of Medieval books, the changes in the kinds of books most in demand over the 1000-year period, and in the audiences who read and used them.
